Boneshaker Ride 11 Sept 2024
It was a good start to the day, sunny with a promise of rain at 3o/c. That didn't matter we would all be indoors by then ?. First get two cantankerous old lady Ariels to start up. John Beckinsale was to borrow my 37 Red Hunter while I had my 1930 model F, neither behaved having not been ridden for a long time but both got around without mechanical intervention. Nine others were waiting at the Museum, some had snuck in with swinging arm bikes, clearly flouting the rules tch, tch. They were 50's era so I'm going to forgive them. Other swinging arm bikes was George's Ducati ( official photographer for the day) and Rex's brand new Royal Enfield Hunter in the official capacity of Backmarker.
On to the coffee stop, The Glass House at Peldon. No road closures, how about that and not many potholes but some horrendous cracks and surface subsidence. We enjoyed the coffee stop too much. I’ve noticed when a load of old boys (and one young lady, Karen) have something to eat and drink they become very comfortable and become part of the decor which made us late to the lunch stop. I phoned ahead to the Museum cafe to say we'd be late, no problem.
At lunch they became very comfortable again and at 3o/c guess what happend.
Only Mark and Karen on their Norton 16H's had the good scence to leave early and escape the heavy rain that arrived on cue.
Thanks to those attending and Rex for marshaling. The only glitch was a guest for the day broke away from the tour without telling anyone his intentions causing Rex to go looking for him. Never mind, we all got home safe hopefully, albeit a bit wet.
