Dave Iszard led Sunday's ride, 13th Oct:

"I couldn't see a ride go to waste so I hastily plotted a route for today (13/10.) A mere 40 miles planned. Lovely day and 12 riders turned at Tesco not for shopping I might add. The fun started when Paul Weston's 1930 Sunbeam started with an enormous bang which blew the exhaust pipe and silencer apart. Followed some banging and a kick or two, as recommended by Haynes manual, and we're good to go. Another non starter was Andy Hanlon who's pretty B25 snapped a cable. We did the decent thing and abandoned Andy in the car park, (that's what mates are for).

On on our way, the planned route was scuppered by a 'fun run'. No hint of that yesterday when I checked the route. So we had to do a U turn cutting the the trip by about six miles. Some of the 'fun runners' looked like they'd spent a life time in the company of Ronald McDonald. Power to them I couldn't do it. So we arrived at EWT Abberton tea room for cake and coffee. I was concerned it might be rammed but it was OK. A leisurely hour there and we head off towards our roast dinner date. A little interlude, I stopped at the one time bomber base at Birch to read the history. Paul didn't want to stop the Sunbeam for fear of it not restarting, it did though.
So on to lunch at The Mill Hotel for which we were a little early. No problem, a drink and much story telling wiled away the time until dinner came. Some returned home leaving eight of us to eat roast chicken when they eventually caught it.
Snippets:- the conversation turned to Roman history, Paul said there was a well preserved Amphitheatre at Marks Tey, What ! didn't know that. It was Marseille ( Mar-say) so not a club visit. Thanks John Beckinsale for being my back marker. Thanks those that making running a ride worthwhile."
