12th August Club Night;

A small group of us arrived early for supper and/or a chance to see the early eclipse. I hadn't taken into account the fact I wear glasses with my hastily built pinhole camera and all I got was a blurred view, bother. Dave Bradley came prepared with his high tech viewing goggles (a welding mask!) and enjoyed the view.

More and more bikes turned up as the evening rolled on. A very good turn out, I think the pleasant weather helped. I must say it was very pleasant standing outside, drink in hand, talking and chatting to everyone. Occassionally I just stood and comtemplated the lovely view.

As our first visit to the Purleigh Bell I would say it will be a well found venue for the club. The function room upstairs looked ideal and the staff were very friendly.

Later we had a visit by a new potential member Mark. He arrived on (apologies if I get this wrong) a Matchless GL3S? Amazingly it had been his grandmother's bike in the second world war when she was in the ATS. He had bravely come from Grays on the bikes first long journey. Well done sir, and thanks to those who escorted him back to familier roads so he could get home.
