VMCC RIDE WRITE UP
A very inauspicious start, or non- start to be accurate. Woke up to thick mist and a non cooperative Velocette, it had completed a faultless pre-ride ride on Monday and now refused to comply on the day. Nothing for it but to stoke up the stroker, apologies for those behind me, oh that would be everyone…
I duly arrived at our Battlesbridge rendezvous a tad later than I had planned to find 3 fellow bikers and the mist clearing. My thoughts were, I hope we get a few more but my doubts were groundless. I was very pleased that by 9:55 the sun was shining and we had 20 bikes.
We set off on a circuitous route through the lesser travelled country lanes to our first comfort stop, Norton Heath Cafe where tea and snacks were consumed.
The second part of our trek, to Dobbs Weir took us along Willingale Lane which was closed for ditch and hedgerow maintenance. Luckily Rex had journeyed that way to meet up with us at the cafe and had cleared it with road crew to let us through, a big well done to Rex. I hadn’t plotted a contingency route!
Our onward journey was without any drama, we met courteous drivers and only minor road works oh and of course a few wet bits. A bit of bike cleanup for the weekend sir!
Good food at The River Palace Cafe, who could ask for more…
A big thank you to all who joined in today and brother Stuart who volunteered me!
I hope you had a good time.
Julian Strauss
Thankyou Stuart for tailending the ride today. The fella that led m,mm! Julian ? He did OK too. 22 riders on a nice day, nice route through different roads. I'm afraid Julian lost some brownie points because some roads were wet and made my bike dirty. Dave Coatsworth suffered the same plight. Anyway you can do another ride sometime. ( enjoyed it really)
Many thanks to all involved in organizing todays ride. This is my third VMCC ride out to date and I'm loving it. I echo Daves words above about the muddy roads, I just got in from washing the bike down and titivating it back to prestine. It was well worth it though. Thanks again.
Sir sends his thanks for a smashing ride, he really enjoyed it jealous because I had to miss it. Don’t know about dirty roads and washing the bike he’s sitting here drinking tea and has his hand dipping into the biscuit tin, the bike’s in the garage dirty I presume
Only able to take part to first stop due to family commitments. A most enjoyable well organised event. Thankyou Julian and Stuart. We have had new volunteers to lead rides this year with a good turnout. Long may it continue. Getting bike dirty don't bother me not even my shiny little Ducati. Made to ride not look at.
